      FullSizeRender%2B14.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B21.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B7.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B17.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B23.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B12.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B4.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B15.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B11.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B19.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B22.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B10.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B3.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B25.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B9.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B6.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B18.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B32.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B30.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B31.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B26.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B34.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B35.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B39.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B40.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B42.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B38.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B43.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B44.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B37.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B49.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B48.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B53.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B50.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B58.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B57.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B62.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B51.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B45.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B52.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B46.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B60.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B56.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B61.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B70.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B69.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B63.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B66.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B64.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B72.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B73.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B65.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B68.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B67.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B54.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B59.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B94.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B55.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B82.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B85.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B79.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B78.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B77.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B74.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B75.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B93.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B83.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B76.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B81.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B86.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B84.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B88.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B90.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B91.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B104.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B95.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B99.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B106.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B116.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B112.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B100.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B105.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B109.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B115.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B125.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B127.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B5.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B8.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B7.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B4.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B13.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B3.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B14.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B20.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B23.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B15.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B18.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B21.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B16.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B22.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B32.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B33.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B10.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B38.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B44.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B46.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B40.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B34.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B37.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B47.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B42.jpg

XD

      FullSizeRender%2B45.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B53.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B55.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B50.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B60.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B58.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B49.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B43.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B63.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B62.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B64.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B67.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B68.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B70.jpg

      FullSizeRender%2B27.jpg

    2. IMG_3084-150x150.jpg

I’ve now been living abroad (in Hong Kong) for five years and a whole lot has changed since I first moved here. Thankfully, the one thing that has remained constant is my wonderful family. I’ve grown a heck of a lot over these past years and have learned so much about myself and the world around me. While I’ve always been close with my parents, moving half way around the world has certainly changed a few things. I can never thank my parents enough for everything they’ve done for me, so here is a little ode to them in the form of five things I’ve realized about family after living abroad for five years.

      5. FaceTime makes the distance bearable

Living abroad in the age of smartphones certainly makes things a lot easier. Whether it’s a quick FaceTime chat on my way home from dinner (what I refer to as “my walk and talk”), or sending a few random messages and photos throughout the week, I’m pretty darn grateful that there are so many easy ways to keep in touch with my family. I ritually FaceTime with my parents every Sunday night (morning in Canada) to have a proper catch-up. Whether we have meaningful things to talk about or not, it’s nice having that routine to check in on each other just to say hi.

      4. Their never-ending support, near and far

Whether it was packing my life up to move to Hong Kong, scrambling to find a flat in only 10 days after landing, or starting up this blog, my family has always been there to give me guidance and support (not to mention listen patiently as I complained and vented about all of the above). I can’t thank them enough for their willingness to support me near and far, and through the highs and lows of these past five years.

      3. My mom is my best friend

I’ve had my fair share of “best friends” throughout my life, but the only person who has stuck by me through thick and thin is my mom (well, my dad too, but it’s just not the same for a daughter :P). She is the person I  go to whenever I have news to share, or just need some life advice on how to be an adult (which is basically every week). My mom is a great mother, an inspiring role model, a comedian, the most outgoing and charismatic person I’ve ever met, beyond generous, incredibly supportive, beautiful on the inside and out, and my very best friend. I truly feel like I won the daughter lottery in life.

      2. I’m still their “little girl”

I’m not sure if it’s because I live abroad, but whenever I go back to visit my family, I get the “little girl” treatment. If you’ve lived abroad, you probably know what I’m referring to: your parents will make you lunch and dinner, they’ll ask what you want from the grocery store, they stock the kitchen cupboards with all your favorite foods before you arrive (in my case, it was 10 bags of Sweet Chili Heat Doritos!), they willingly lend you their car, and the list goes on and on.

On the other hand, when I’m abroad and tell them I’m not feeling well, I get a dozen questions including, “have you gone to the doctor yet?”. Sometimes I question whether they think I’m “adult enough” to take care of myself (which at times, I also wonder), I remind myself that they’re only asking because they’re concerned and care about their “little girl”.

      1. My family are the most important people in my life

When you pack up your life and move abroad, you leave a whole lot of stuff behind (some of which you’re probably better off without).  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that my family is one of the few constants in my life: they don’t break up with you, they don’t ditch you for new friends, and they certainly don’t stop staying in touch after you move away. At the end of the day, I’ve only got one family, so I’m damn well going to make sure they know just how important and loved they are at every opportunity I get.

How did your relationship with your family change when you moved abroad?

    • Hey Thao. This plan is quite good.   There are many special walls that were painted in Soho district in Central.  It is good to take photos there. Will you plan to go to the bar for drinks on Day 4 at night? I suggest a Bar call "Bar pacific". The price of food and drink is relatively reasonable in HK. And there provide darts. The atmosphere was so good there. It has many branches in HK like in Shatin, TaiPo, Hung Hom, etc. I suggest you can go to Hung Hom Bar Pacific that night cause it is near to Tsim Sha Tsui. Lastly, i would recommend you to eat "DimSum" which is a traditional food in Hong Kong. And you can find a lot of DimSum restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui too. One of restaurant I would recommend is called "Social Place". I hope you enjoy your trip to Hong Kong.
    • Just discovered Open Rice has nominated Social Place for Best Restaurant award 2017 right before the deadline and casted my vote! Even though it’s over, and I can’t tell my friends to vote for them now, I still have to tell everyone about their amazing food. First off, I have to recommend their FANCY dim sum! The cute truffle mushroom bun that looks just like real mushrooms with truffle and mushroom filling, tasted awesome. The turnip cake was crisp outside, soft inside. The creative rose bun, which was shaped like a rose actually has rose fragrance! The tofu with egg just melted in my mouth, and the “fun pei” is a must try. Mmmm~ Other dishes that you cannot miss are: the black vinegar chicken, the roasted baby pigeon and the drunken chicken. They also have happy hour serving beer and wine at half priced which is a huge plus. I am definitely gonna be a regular. Highly support this awesome restaurant
    • Hi Shirousa Thank you very much for your advice 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
    • Hi Thao, welcome to this forum and to Hong Kong! Your itinerary is actually quite well planned and just a bit suggestion/advice to you are that TVB City is not opened to public, so you may not be able to get in without a permit; another thing is on Day 4, in case you don't have much spots to visit in Wan Chai,  you may consider visit Nan Lian Garden near Diamond Hill MTR station (http://www.nanliangarden.org/home.php?eng) after your visit to Kowloon Walled City and before Wan Chai. Just shut if you have more questions
