In Hong Kong I rarely get too many choices for drinks that I can't decide but here I found it hard to pick a drink because there were four I wanted to try which is a good sign.

IMG-20170301-WA0013.jpg

They specialize in Traditional Chinese herbal medicine where they have turned them into healthy and delicious drinks with a young twist from the packaging to the store outlook with cute pastel colours.
IMG-20170301-WA0015.jpg

They even had yoghurt drinks made with real yoghurt, not the weird tasting Calpis or Yakult which is laced with sugar.

Anyway, I decided to go for the Nourishing Raspberry almond milk which was a surprisingly wonderful combination.
IMG-20170301-WA0014.jpg

IMG-20170301-WA0011.jpg
I had it hot (served warm), any hotter than and that I don't think it would taste nice.
To my amazement it had real raspberries in it, not sure if they were fresh or frozen but at least they were not the dehydrated ones.
There should be more raspberries in the picture but it tasted so good I drank half of it before I took pictures.
IMG-20170301-WA0012.jpg

Not to mention the benefits for health, I loved the taste because it was so natural especially the raspberry and you could taste hints of almond as well without being too milky.
Normally milk doesn't mix with sour berries but in this case almond milk does.
The beauty is that this drink tastes good hot or cold so it depends on what mood you're in.

I will definitely be back for the banana yoghurt rice water, secret rice water, detox fig leaves tea with dried longan and warming apple cinnamon oolong tea.

There used to be only one place for Sri Lankan food in Hong Kong and that was Sai Kung which is so inconvenient.
Thanks to Timeout, I discovered this new joint located on this street in Sheung Wan selling Chinese delicacies and this little joint really sticks out.

20170224_143829.jpg
20170224_143814.jpg
20170224_144801.jpg

They serve street food so expect string hoppers and Kottus.

I ordered the string hoppers with potato milk curry and the Cheese Kottu with beef curry.

The string hoppers and potato milk curry came first.
20170224_145643.jpg
Tried the string hoppers on its own and they were surprisingly flavoured despite looking like unflavoured Chinese rice vermicelli.
These string hoppers are steamed so they are springy and soft and there are about 6 of these hoppers on the plate.
20170224_145844.jpg
The potatoes were very aromatic because there was a lovely cinnamon aroma and taste to it and you will even find a cinnamon stick as well but the only let down was the potatoes were not soft enough.
20170224_145916.jpg

The next dish was the cheese kottu,  I was really looking forward to this because I love cheese. It smelt so nice because of the onions and chili but so far nothing was too spicy.
20170224_145833.jpg
The smell was so comforting because they smelt like the Shatkora kebabs in London.
The side of beef curry I ordered was also amazing because I love the mix of coriander seeds, fennel seeds and cumin.
20170224_145829.jpg

They sell that curry powder too which is a special blend bottled exclusively for Serendib!!
20170224_152207.jpg

20170224_152158.jpg

To finish off, I had their Sri Lankan tea which is just Ceylon tea and it was so good because it was fragrant and not bitter like the ones you get in HK.
20170224_144745.jpg
Serendib is run by an interesting couple who communicate in Japanese so you can't eavesdrop unless you know Japanese~~~

Seeing lots of expats have visited this place I decided to go early one evening.

16730617_10154949762288340_3022872257576599321_n.jpg

Luckily I got there at 6pm because it was full within an hour.
20170216_193942.jpg

The menu is simple with appetizers, pastas and dessert.
16806734_10154949760803340_6730357751550616697_n.jpg

There were four of us so we got a pasta each while we shared the starters.
It is really hard choosing a pasta because they have Gnocchi, ravioli, orecchiette, lasagne, tagliatelle, parpadelle and pici!!

We sat at the bar where we got a view of all the pasta being made and the cooking at the far end.
I seem to recognize one of the Chefs from Pirata.
20170216_192300.jpg

16730456_10154949760093340_5452145947446453736_n.jpg

Fresh hand rolled pici which looked like fat spaghetti being made:
16649203_10154949734313340_6536750642335260066_n.jpg

Ravioli being prepared:

Parma ham sliced to order:
16711960_10154949747763340_6142500871905804595_n.jpg

Began with bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar while we were waiting.
16730510_10154949756583340_3787242737170327053_n.jpg

20170216_181339.jpg

Started with the burrata cheese which was creamy, soft and supple:
20170216_182748.jpg

Next was the Chefs selection which was served on a board comprising of parma ham, salami, taleggio and parmesan.
You can evidently see the difference of freshly sliced parma ham because it is moist and radiant in colour.
20170216_182724.jpg

Moving on the the warm starters, we had the meatballs which were made of pork, beef with tomato sauce.
They were big and tasty.
20170216_183507.jpg
Now to the stars of the show, we had lasagne, ravioli, gnocchi and orecchiette
The gnocchi was one of the best I have had because the texture is not stodgy and there are bits of potato in it.
20170216_184925.jpg
The ravioli was also exciting, there were two choices for ravioli so I chose the one with truffle because it was filled with delicious asparagus and shallots.
The filling was silky smooth complemented by the fragrant truffle.
20170216_190004.jpg

20170216_190415.jpg
My friend had the lasagne which was very hearty and meaty.
20170216_184828.jpg
Last but not least was the nduja orecchiette which had a spicy touch to it while the orecchiette pasta pieces were al dente.
20170216_190800.jpg

Despite being quite full we had the tiramisu which was a perfect end to the dinner.

A while ago I dined at Hamataki at Kowloon City so I immediately recognised the other branch in Tin Hau because of the sign surrounded by lightbulbs.

16807264_10154949656298340_5458880920286976910_n.jpg

As it was lunch time, there was a good ramen deal with salad and a drink included.
16729429_10154949653048340_7360917947483054932_n.jpg

Ordered a ramen lunch set and the grilled fish again because I remembered it was delicious at the Kowloon City branch.

Black garlic ramen:
16649124_10154949652253340_8582040357722418568_n.jpg

16729285_10154949646493340_5608836907624762927_n.jpg

When it arrived, the broth was bubbling because there is a pebble in the broth to keep the ramen hot while you're eating it.

The broth was thin but had a really strong garlic flavour that was quite bitter and the slice of pork was soft and fresh.
The salad that comes with it.

++++
My favourite grilled mackerel was moist and silky with a lovely salted taste.
It was so good that I ordered a rice to go with it.

+++++++++++++
We also had this avocado and cream cheese which went nicely with the crackers.

++++++
The silky tofu was a healthy fix as well.

Discovered this relaxing place for coffee when I was in the area.

20170213_151341.jpg

They specialize in coffee but I was there for the bagel.

20170213_150328.jpg

20170213_150337.jpg
It was impressive the vegetarian had spicy hummus in a location like that because not many people in Kowloon would know what hummus is.
It was certainly delicious but a bit too spicy.
20170213_151819.jpg
$72 for a vegetarian bagel is too expensive for Kowloon as it does not include a drink.

Purple romanticism

After seeing this delicious dish posted by PJ Moments I had to go and try it.8b3a4351-fdef-48f5-ba5b-46b4c87c348e.jpg
The dish I was after is available during lunch so went for lunch.

Dining at Muraski is spacious and has lots of tables with good privacy.
There is also a private room that can host lots of people as well.
20170212_140529.jpg

For the lunch set, you get salad, steamed egg, mains, rice, pickles and dessert.

Started with salad which was crisp and sweet with a mix of greens.6d3d6b5d-cb68-4bb7-9064-6630f0140a1a.jpg
The steamed egg was tasty crammed with lots of seafood topped with pretty salmon roe.
Personally I am not a fan of Japanese steamed egg but the one here was the best I have ever tried.
5d985021-2bf4-44cc-8a75-980d9edd048b.jpg
For the soup, it was red miso which is my favourite because it has a strong smell and miso taste.67a2f71f-b362-4aee-b71a-fc7ea7805bac.jpg
Moving on to the Murasaki Chirashi, it looked just exactly like the photos, topped with uni, salmon roe, cucumber and egg.

59ee4382-2397-48c7-b9c4-c452ca96d6b3.jpg
The best thing is that it comes with a side of crispy sakura shrimps which have been roasted in the oven so it has a super crispy texture.
7b31406d-fca1-4d67-84e6-25993191222b.jpg
The rice gives you ricegasm without the crispy shrimps but when you add them, the flavour comes out even more and you can't stop eating it.
cd437c1a-ffad-478f-9b09-750cee2b4b77.jpg
I wish there was more crispy shrimps!!
ccd1071b-f6de-4402-927a-62d5c4125ca9.jpg
But anyway, the salmon roe, uni, crispy shrimps and cucumber just taste amazing together with the rice.
We also shared the sashimi set which was fresh with a good variety of sashimi.
My favourite was the baby eels, scallops and toro.

20170212_143043.jpg

20170212_143025.jpg

The lunch came with mango sorbet which was a sweet ending but we also had the highly recommended popping candy which turned out to be crazily delicious and my birthday surprise.

20170212_151814.jpg

I was literally expect popping candy but it was Mandarin, lychee and guava pearls with pear brandy jelly and peach crushed ice with rice soup poured on it.

20170212_151848.jpg

The pearls pop in your mouth with this heavenly liquid. The lychee and mandarin were my favourite and all the elements were not too sweet.

Recently discovered that this joint served enticing food so decided to try it out.
02U8FD5BA60F1FE4089A58l.jpg
The decor inside is nice with a touch of French and English, while there are some French/Italian inspired dishes on the menu.
02U8FE99644E8508D63B23l.jpg

02U8FGDA7D07B1199B9E40l.jpg
02U8FH08D85C55BA14F769l.jpg
As the ground floor was full, we were seated upstairs.

Ordered the Italian braised beef, All day breakfast, Japanese matcha latte and Pink Himalayan sea salted caramel latte.
Despite the joint was busy, the food came extremely fast!!
++++++
All day breakfast:
02U8FI3457F88BCFE29C12l.jpg
I was looking forward to this and it was definitely good so I ate everything.

Rarely do I order breakfasts in HK because restaurants just put crap together like fake sausages and other weird stuff but everything on this plate was delicious.There was a hot spring egg, green salad, Pain de Mie, potato truffle salad, tornado wedges and avocado salad. I love potatoes so it was great there was potato salad as well as wedges.
The wedges were fried perfectly so they were not wasted and I even put some egg yolk and avocado on it to make it evilicious.
02U8FJEFC7FCF05DFBCFE6l.jpg
The potato salad was divine, they were not too soft and starchy with a potato taste as well as truffle.
I loved the way the salad was jazzed up with tasty sundried tomatoes and yummy macadamia nuts.
02U8FKDA16608D28306DE8l.jpg
++++++
Italian braised beef:
02U8FL63BC551D554AD080l.jpg
A nice dish of braised beef in tomato sauce, again paired with these delicious tornado wedges and healthy avocado salad.
++++++
Japanese matcha latte:
02U8FM72486970D44FB0D7l.jpg
The matcha latte is served with a side of Okinawa black sugar but it tasted good without so I didn't need it.
It had a pleasant taste without being too grassy or bitter and the sakura flower spoon is so pretty.
++++++
Pink Himalayan sea salted caramel latte:
02U8FN9A346DA843A757DEl.jpg
Beautifully presented and the foamed cap was lovely with a decent saltiness to compliment the latte.
++++++
Finished with warm brownies.
Both were good especially the chocolate.

I have always wanted to try this place because of their famous burgers.
02U61O6A31884392D461C7l.jpg
02U61P1D8B9D660E5CD89Bl.jpg
Electric Ave to me is a street in Brixton, UK where they have lots of Caribbean restaurants in that area.
Brixton is a lot more hip these days with other restaurants.

Anyway, this is the second Burger joint that I have been to in HK opened by a Brit.
What makes this one special is that everything is made in house by them from the sauces to the patties.
The chips are hand cut, soaked in ph water to remove the starch, fried three times so the chips are the most time consuming and take about 5 hours according to the menu.

02U61Q83B2740B33FE423El.jpg
It is best to eat with a friend because they have chips and fries which are both good.

Anyway, we ended up having two burgers: Classic beef with Fruit pig black pudding and the Creamy chicken.

Both burgers came in a delicious soft fluffy bun.
++++++
Classic beef with Fruit pig black pudding, bone marrow chips:
02U61RFBE2BBB67DECEAD6l.jpg
Evidently it was very tasty with lots of flavours going on as there are about 100 different ingredients inside, a touch of spiciness and sweetness and every bite was sensational.
There were onions, cheese, siracha, pickles etc.
02U61SDE2C86390479D978l.jpg
The best bit is the black pudding which was velvety and there was a huge chunk inside the patty but unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it.
Moving on to the chips, nothing beats some real chips which you can't get in HK and these are laced with bone marrow which you can taste and smell. It has this beefy aroma to them.
02U61TD3F45B62F729B0D1l.jpg
++++++
Creamy hache chicken and rosemary fries:
02U61UCFBFCF3D155D9A32l.jpg
I was really impressed with this because chicken is usually boring but they really jazzed it up. I thought it was going to be smothered in a creamy sauce but it was dressed with arugula and lots of herbs.
It tasted like Vietnamese chicken pho because of the aniseed and it was chicken hash so you still get the chicken texture.
02U61V40B94426AF151274l.jpg
The rosemary fries were perfectly done because I like them blonde, perfectly crisp on the outside yet fluffy on the inside.
++++++
Definitely coming again.
Next time I will order the veggie burger in advance because they do good veggie burgers as well.

In English this place is called 65 Peel, in Chinese, it is called 何蘭正 so if you don't pronounce it properly it sounds like ho lun jeng which is like saying something is so good that you need to express it with a swear word.
02TB6O3E0108167720C613l.jpg
02TB6ND17B60D3CD19E5BBl.jpg
02TB6M73E558CEE41CFD96l.jpg

The food didn't disappoint and quite a few dishes were damn good and memorable.

Evidently they are creative if you look at the photos before like the lobster hotdog which uses fried doughsticks instead of the usual bun.

They have discontinued this item but the items we had were equally as good.

Started with drinks first while looking at the menu.

At first the drinks list seems complicated but then I figured it was a table with origin, alc vol etc.
02TB6P532740E93FD06A7El.jpg
02TB6Q59B7A7A7D71A3877l.jpg

I chose the Lemon Lime Hop (AUS) and the Dry Fresh apple Cider (UK).
02TB6RC5BE3F944F4121BDl.jpg

02TB6S6773D7C89D83D877l.jpg

Just tried a sip of the Cider and it was wonderful because you can taste the apple juice, as for the Lemon Lime Hop, it tasted a bit like beer with some bitterness and the sweetness strangely tasted like grapes.

Here was what we had:

++++++++

Molten Cheese with apricot:
02TB6U83171684CF45A3B3l.jpg
The cheese was runny inside as stated on the menu because when I picked it up, I accidentally broke the breadcrumb coating and Tomino cheese oozed out. These bites were delicious with the apricot beneath it and the best thing is that the apricots are real halved apricots and not puree.
+++++++++
20 Hours Beef cheek truffle pasta:
02TB6YFA4A7595188ACD0Cl.jpg
This was amazing, everything was in harmony from the earthy mushrooms, the soft beef and the pasta itself.
I loved the pasta they used because they chose tagliolini which is really fine in width and hangs all the sauce when you eat it.
+++++++++++++
Typhoon Shelter M6 Wagyu Beef:
02TB6WC7AA963B826CC3F9l.jpg
I was recommended this and it was brilliant. To me Typhoon shelter dishes are dry cooked with crispy garlic and black bean but the juicy Wagyu beef came in this delicious gravy.
The tofu blocks were a bonus because I thought it was just going to be plain beef in this dish but these pieces of tofu are damn addictive because the texture is soft inside and it soaks that delicious sauce.
++++++++++
We also had the 24 month Iberico Bikini that came with a modern twist because the Iberico was crispy which made it like posh bacon.
02TB6TA2A909B3EFC9F64Cl.jpg
++++++++++
For desserts we had Churros with salty egg yolk and caramel sauce and the Dark beer tiramisu.
02TB6XD24C032ADAAF80CFl.jpg
02TB6V10599870D65E86AAl.jpg

The Churros were the best I have had, they were coated in a lovely sugar cinnamon coating that didn't make it too sweet while the sauce carried a slight bitterness which works well together.
The tiramisu was light and the sponge was literally soaked with black beer.
Strangely I could taste orange in it as well.
I will definitely be back to try the chicken because they said it was the signature dish.

Toyosu Suisan has been a success since they opened with fresh ingredients imported from Japan.
Now there is a second branch in Yau Ma Tei conveniently located near the MTR exit.
I attended the opening in mid Jan where they kicked off with a drum performance and preparation of a whole Maguro which was served that day.

After watching the performance, I went upstairs and had the Flying Maguro bowl with soup.

It was just simply delicious because all the ingredients were fresh with diced cucumbers, fresh yam, abalone, maguro, prawn, salmon roe and egg.
The salmon roe was just amazing and bursts in your mouth with saltiness.

I was surprised they also throw in the abalone liver and the size is quite big in comparison to the abalone.

Last but not least was the soup which was rich in flavour.
You are supposed to drink the soup first but I prefer to eat first as the soup fills my stomach.

I have always wanted to stay in a capsule hotel but haven't quite made it to Japan yet.
Recently a friend posted about sleeep, a capsule hotel in Hong Kong so I was delighted.
SLEEEP is a capsule hotel blending design & technology in promoting a sustainable culture.
One quality sleep at a time.

20170118_161459.jpg

20170118_155141.jpg

For me, I like the idea of privacy and being in my own little world just like when I was a kid playing in playhouses/dens/treehouses.
It is a place where I can get inspirations and think deeply.
I loved the capsules, they were much bigger than I anticipated with charging ports and a mini ledge for you to put your phone, glasses etc and most importantly wifi.
20170118_155253.jpg

20170118_160131.jpg

20170118_155414.jpg
It was definitely comfy having a nap there with a choice of hard or soft mattresses.

The key role of sleeep is to provide quality sleep or a place for people to recharge themselves.
It is popular with people in Central/Sheungwan who have had a tiring day and finishing late so they decide to stay there as opposed to going home.
There are eight capsules with corresponding storage that flashes at your arrival, two toilets, sinks and a shower.
Each capsule is for one person only and if someone is naughty as they say the lights will flash red as shown in this video.

Facts about the amenities at sleeep:
Check-in from your device, arrive and skip all the hassle.
20170118_155209.jpg
Smart lighting that is responsive to the circadian cycle.
Store your luggage and belongings in their full-height lockers

I am so glad that this donut shop J.Co Donuts & Coffee from Indonesia has landed in HK.
20161214_170850.jpg

20161219_145149.jpg
There must be so many other good eateries in Southern Asia that haven't made it to boring Hong Kong yet.

Anyway, they have two types of donuts, the ring donuts and the filled donuts, all with creative names and they are reasonably priced at HKD15 each or HKD88 for a half a dozen.

There were two filled donuts I had to try because one had Kaya and the other was avocado.
The filled ones are lovely but the cream inside is that nasty synthetic cream.

Here were the donuts that I had:
20161219_145436.jpg
20161219_145025.jpg

++++++
Avocado Dicaprio:
20161219_151307.jpg
I couldn't taste the avocado but this is a good one to try because it is not so sweet and there is a slight savoury taste to it.
++++++
Sugar ice:
20161219_145646.jpg
It was difficult choosing this one and the glazed one because I wanted to try a basic donut.
This one was quite soft and gently dusted with icing sugar (powdered sugar).
++++++
Forest Glam:
20161219_145420.jpg
I love cherries so I had to pick this one but I wish there were more cherries to give it a more blackforest cake appearance.
++++++
White Desert:
20161219_150557.jpg
I was looking forward to this because it was covered in shredded coconut and filled with my favourite Kaya but the synthetic cream in the middle ruined it.
++++++
As with all sweet treats, I love to enjoy them with a cup of Earl Grey!
20161219_145034.jpg

++++++
I think the sweetness of the donuts are just right because I was able to eat four donuts in one go whereas Krispy Kreme I can only manage half a donut.
It was hilarious when the staff dropped the last box of baby donuts on the floor!

I wonder if this donut joint will cause crazy queues like Krispy Kreme did and whether Michele Reis (leegayan) will come here for a donut or its fate will end up like Krispy Kreme did in HK.

A while ago # was known as the HASH key on the phone when calls involved pressing numbers followed by the # key.
Nowadays all that has changed and we Hashtag everywhere to get our news and messages across effectively.

I discovered this new modern and chic restaurant #OMG because it was right next to Hong Kong Day.

omgfront.jpg
The decor, tables and chairs in a contrasting white and magenta made it fun to dine there so I went in.
20161207_181917.jpg

20161207_190218.jpg

20161207_181911.jpg

Looking at the menu, all the dishes were affordable with a good range from pastas, burgers, udon, Japanese dishes to All day breakfasts.
15350635_10154713249423340_5981027714156966346_n.jpg

The drinks were equally impressive, especially the hot chocolate with candyfloss and some drinks are only half price when you order the main dishes.
20161207_182028.jpg

drinkm%2Ben.jpg

Here was what we ordered: Steamed green tea with lemon, Taste of Aomori, Peach Crush, La La Land, Fettuccine with cheese and meatballs in Italian style tomato sauce and All day breakfast.

Started off with the cold drinks and all of them were refreshing but it really depends on what your preference is.
My favourite was the La La Land because I like the combination of orange and passionfruit but if you like strawberries and apple then go for the Taste of Aomori.

Peach Crush:

La La Land:

Taste of Aomori:
ampre.jpg

Peach Crush is recommended for people who like it sweet without the acidic fruits like citrus and berries.
My friend had the flu that day, so he had the lemon tea with a modern twist because it was lemon with roasted green tea leaves.
tea.jpg

It was really hard choosing the mains because the All day breakfast and omurice looked good but in the end I got the breakfast.

For $58, the All day breakfast was really good, you get waffle with jam, egg, sausage, chips, tomato ketchup, baked beans, bacon and mushrooms.
A nice combination of sweet and savoury items on one plate.
The egg was done beautifully complimented nicely by the rest of the items.
bread.jpg

The Fettuccine with cheese and meatballs in Italian style tomato sauce came with generous tasty meatballs covered in rich tomato sauce.
I liked the way it was paired with fettuccine because spaghetti can get a bit boring sometimes but saying that I was tempted to order the spaghetti bolognese.

Quite a feast at this place and OMG it didn't break the bank!!

KFC serves chicken obviously but at Hong Kong's KFC they have three exclusive dishes that are totally different from the rest of the world!

They have curry with rice, beef rice and shabu shabu. I haven't been to Japan but they could possibly serve it as well because it is Japanese inspired.

Curry with rice:

Beef Rice:

Shabu shabu:
20161128_181223.jpg

That day, I went there specifically to try the shabu shabu and beef rice.
To my utter surprise I was stopped for taking photos which rarely happens in my blogging experience, not once was I even stopped in UK.

The shabu shabu comes with rice but I upgraded it to DOLLS instant noodles.
20161128_181045.jpg

There is extra broth if you need it.
20161128_181232.jpg

The ingredients were fresh and the burner kept burning until we finished.

15220089_10154685041823340_8880763550307546421_n.jpg

As for the beef rice, it comes in a nice paper box with the beef separated in a plastic tray.

The beef was in this sweet onion gravy which tasted like oyster sauce.
Compared to Yoshinoya (a chain in Hong Kong that specializes in beef bowls), the beef was not as beefy but the presentation was neater.

Queues, queues, I hate queues.

This has solved the problem partially but you still have to wait for the food.

Anyway, if you have used the create your burger kiosk before, it is much the same.

You choose what you want and pay.

Sai Kung recently celebrated its 100th anniversary of the Tinhau and Guandi temple.

I was really lucky to tag along and watch the parade on land and at sea followed by the banquet.

Sunday the 21st was the main event with a parade that saw the Tin Hau and Kwan Tai statues being carried along the streets of Sai Kung followed by the parade carried out at sea.

Hutong is part of the Aqua Restaurant group in Hong Kong.
If you book the Aqua Luna boat ride package you can dine at any of their restaurants after the boat trip.

Aqua Luna experience:
http://supersupergirl-dining.blogspot.hk/2016/05/an-unforgettable-experience-on-aqua-luna.html

I think dinner at Hutong is the best after experiencing Aqua Luna because it can't get more Chinese than this!!
The decor, music and everything is just amazing that tourists and expats will love this place.
Every aspect of from the ceiling to the menu was totally oriental.
I know it sounds silly mentioning the washroom but that was worth checking out too.

This is what we had.

++++++++
Bamboo clams steeped in Chinese rose wine and chili sauce paired with asparagus:
A great way to begin dinner with appetizing clams and nutty asparagus coated in sesame.
20161116_183521.jpg

++++++++
Northern garden braised fish fillet in Sweet and Sour sauce:
This was the highlight of dinner because I love fish.
It was totally boneless and it was a whole fish with skin and tail attached.
The fish was soft and silky coated in a sweet and sour sauce that was flawless.
20161116_185638.jpg
I devoured it all except the tail.
20161116_191003.jpg
++++++++
Crispy boneless lamb ribs with Chinese pancakes:
This was crispy chunks of lamb that was soft and tender.

++++++++
Stir fried string beans with minced pork:
I loved the beans, they were spicy with a fragrant cumin kick to it.
20161116_194201.jpg
++++++++
Hutong Dan Dan noodles:
The noodles came in this cute ceramic little pot, the broth was quite spicy and thick with a rich peanut taste.

++++++++
Ginger creme brulee:
I am not a fan of creme brulee but the ginger makes it more palatable and tones down the sweetness and creaminess.

My friend got me a lovely Chinese jar of Chili sauce which is so Hutong style!
It makes a great souvenir and gift!

To be honest, I am not keen on Taiwanese food because the Taiwanese food you get in Hong Kong is probably bastardized.
The decor was quite different from other Taiwanese joints in HK.

07HEUS4E5AAD9A0DFB5B43px.jpg
07HEUTDDEFE3C85190ED63px.jpg
The pricing was quite good and the portions were quite big.
Knowing that I don't like the noodles and rice with marinated meat, I didn't choose them and ordered other stuff.
Here was what I had.
+++++
Bittermelon and pineapple soup:
07HEUUEDB252731DFFD3AFpx.jpg
07HEV06FD7DD46A0D5293Bpx.jpg
The soup was clear without oil and it had a nice bittermelon taste but I couldn't taste any pineapple even though there were chunks of it.
+++++
Ribs and herbs soup:
07HEV4BD5A10DEB1871987px.jpg
I loved this soup because it had a strong herb flavour and tastes exactly the same as buk kut teh.
+++++
Black fungus in vinegar:
07HEV2FDA11ACDDCFA51D4px.jpg
The black fungus had a lovely texture because it was thick but the vinegar was too sweet that I can't classify it as a vinegar.
+++++
Crispy chicken rice:
Compared to other places I have tried, the coating is definitely different and it was so much batter.
The chicken pieces were huge and the batter made it monstrous!
Surprisingly the chicken tasted really soft and tender so I think the batter protected it when it was in the oil but I didn't eat the batter because it was just too thick.
It would be good if they could slice the chicken into smaller pieces.

07HEVB7F8DA118783998BApx.jpg
07HEVC5BFEBC872AC558EEpx.jpg
The rice that came with it was Pearl rice.
07HEVAC612DF91E6F82724px.jpg
+++++
Salted egg bitter melon:
07HEUWC75370A30D8E05FFpx.jpg
The bitter melon is a must order even though it doesn't look appealing.
It was lovely the way it was thinly sliced coated in starchy salted egg yolk, yet the whole thing was not too salty.
+++++
Hsinchu vermicelli:
07HEV545F6C610BFDE1232px.jpg
The vermicelli was quite al-dente and tasty.
I was expecting the silver thread vermicelli but it wasn't.
+++++
Herbal jelly latte:
07HEUV10C53DC40F55CEC1px.jpg
Finished off with a herbal tea latte which tasted like Taiwanese style tea with lots of herbal jelly in it.

Golden goblet cocktails which you would literally want to put on your head and take a photo!
I didn't do that but someone did.
Normally I can't drink cocktails but the ones here are quite light and you can't taste the alcohol.
My favourite was the Aqua queen because of the cranberry.

Italian starter also unlimited.
I loved the prawns, smoked salmon, pickles and the mozzarella cheese.

Ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta cheese topped with Parmesan and wild porcini sauce.
It was nice and cheesy so it satisfied my cheese craving.

To be honest I was quite full from the starters and they were good so you will end up ordering more.
Here were the mains, on the Japanese side there was crispy Hokkaido fried salmon, Wagyu beef skewers and foie gras.
02LUZBB74F11C57258F5FFlv.jpg

The Italian option has huge grilled King prawns and juicy grilled lamb chops.
The roasted baby potatoes on the side were a killer because it was fluffy in the middle and tasty.

The brunch ended with a sweet platter of desserts and the crispy mango rolls and icecream were fantastic.

The options above were good enough but you can also upgrade your brunch with tataki sushi and burrata cheese.

As the weather is cooling down, I took this opportunity to go Macau to experience the Grand Resort Deck at Galaxy.
8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana has launched a white truffle menu as it is the season for white truffle so how could I not try it.
The white truffle menu has five courses which is available now until the end of January so I suppose you could book Christmas dinner there and spoil yourself with a White truffle Christmas dinner.

8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana couldn't be a better place to go for white truffle Italian dishes because chef-owner Umberto BOMBANA is hailed as "Best Italian Chef in Asia" and "Worldwide Ambassador of White Truffle".
With a talented chef, it is not surprising that the newly opened Macau branch rapidly gained one Michelin star while Hong Kong holds Three Michelin stars.
bom.jpg

I definitely agree with Umberto BOMBANA that less is more with white truffle and the five courses on the white truffle menu are just that.
On the white truffle menu, there is a scrambled egg with white truffle, risotto, homemade Tagliolini, poularde de Bresse and truffle icecream.
me.jpg

This was such an amazing dinner I had three choices from the White truffle menu.

Started with a good selection of bread with olive oil and sweet balsamic vinegar.
14582351_1220156041341052_15522995484103
+++++++++
Amuse bouche was a colourful mix of Heirloom tomatoes.
The yellows are the best because they have a fragrant sweet taste.
14709665_368304000181111_995738380316704
+++++++++
Scampi carpaccio was a match made in heaven because it had my two favourite elements scampi and sea urchin and the green apple and celery made every mouthful refreshing.
14730466_375260836197670_759682996293861
++++++++++++++
Now to the star of the evening, the first of the truffle dish was Homemade Tagliolini.
The White truffles were shaved in front of you and it was evidently generous.
The sauce made of butter and aged Parmesan (36 months) was full of flavour but not too over powering to go with the delicate aromatic white truffles which had a strong earthy musky aroma that worked in harmony.
14716505_1745484722369821_63811075968535
The Tagliolini was soft yet springy and hung the sauce well, so each mouthful was joyful.
14719346_563849943820084_393171127577555
++++++++++++++
Following the pasta it was poularde de Bresse.
Bresse chicken is known as the best table chicken in the world.
The bird has a white coat of feathers and there are pockets of fat underneath the skin which keeps it succulent during cooking.
Simply the best paired with the best because Bresse chicken has a sweet creamy taste which works wonders with the truffle.
There were two pieces of chicken, thigh and breast but both were surprisingly tender that you would get confused but you can tell by the colour.
14705021_182653798853245_548042555728592

Before dessert came, we had grape sorbet on top of yoghurt foam.
I don't know why but I could taste lemon grass in the yoghurt.

14659260_307588322960075_802528920023859

To finish off, it was Truffle icecream and a warm hazelnut cake covered in white truffle slices.
The icecream was over whelming because the truffle taste was so strong.
14709495_685143174982095_347066918391250
The hazelnut cake which I thought was cake all the way through actually had a runny hazelnut centre.

Lastly we had tea and petit fours which ended the meal nicely.

People who know me will know that I love anything that is colourful and sparkling.
Takashi Murakami's The dream lion caught my attention and I was mesmerized by that and everything else because it was so colourful.
The stairs going up were so artsy fartsy.

On the upper floor, there is a giant polka-dot pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama.

On the table, the glasses were beautiful and I loved the colourful circles on the bar tables over looking Lee Tung Avenue.

Scanning the menu, it was Nipo-Brasileiro (Japanese-Brazilian) which I am so cool with especially the Brazilian influence.
Started with drinks which were both a nice surprise.
The cocktail choices were all captivating with the use of lots of fruit.
My friend had the DJAPA refresher which had the most outstanding presentation, but from the menu the other drinks like blushing geisha, princess mononoke would be more captivating because of the name but if there was a picture, people would probably go for the DJAPA refresher.
But anyway, people will look at IG these days to check things out.

When you take the straw, the G string will fall on the table.
I had a non alcoholic drink called the Brazilian paradise which was served in an elegant chalice and I put the G string in front so you can see what it looks like.

For food, here was what we had.
Started with a juicy pineapple cabbage which was finely shredded cabbage mixed with pineapple.
It was very refreshing and there was a strong fiery ginger taste to it.
14712180_1131607956921948_61352237514044

Then we had the salmon mikan which was a bit like carpaccio paired with mandarin pieces and yuzu.
14714525_292448967821344_264437409242100

The turbot yuzu was a tangy ceviche with a crisp crunch of mountain yam pieces.
14726340_1688039721512914_43049556848284

Next was the not so raw Hokkaido scallops paired with crisp tart apples.
14676759_1205156726216290_74548575941762

The highlight of the night was the bobo.
It was delicious puree with juicy bits of pineapple contained in a squash.
I would be happy just eating the stuff in the middle with rice as a vegetarian dish without the prawns.

The sun tanned crabs were fun too which deserve a few photos!!!

For carbs, we had the seafood rice and coconut rice.
I liked both because I like carbs, the seafood rice with whitebait and nori was tasty and the coconut rice is a bit different to the coconut rice you get in HK because it doesn't take milky or sweet but it has a toasted coconut flavour to it.

The meat lovers had skewers.
14711848_1610084272630283_71834153088817

For dessert we had chocolates which were rich and the filling was so silky that it melts in your mouth.
14719194_1312203055464946_37496888781438

The sago pearls were huge and chewy, but the taste was nice.

To summarize, the environment and food were in harmony and nothing was out of place.
I hope they will keep the standards because I am going to go there for lunch again and check it out!

Yum Cha is well known for their creatively cute novelty dimsums.

I went there for lunch and they were serving some scary treats because it was Halloween.

There was a long queue but food came relatively fast.

Here was what we had:

Steamed shrimp dumplings:

The shimps were springy and it was just shrimps inside so you won't get any nasty fatty pork and lard.

Flying bats wonton:

This was my favourite because I like fried things and inside it was delicious prawns.
+++++++++++++
BBQ pork finger puffs:

This was on the sweet side and it was made with shortcrust which made it crumbly.

+++++++++++
Steamed mummy sausage buns:

This was a bit different from the usual buns because it had a sweet preserved sausage in the middle.
++++++++
For dessert we finished with these cute pumpkins filled with starchy red beans.

Found out that they had gelato at Das Gute so went there for it.

I was hoping to get the mint chocolate or Darjeeling but the Darjeeling was sold out.
It was pretty cheap for $20.
However when I got the Gelato, the presentation was a bit funny, it was gelato smeared on the edges with a side and bottom that was empty.
My friend who had it from this branch a few hours before me said her cup of gelato was normal.

Anyway, the yoghurt gelato was on the sweet side but it was quite nice with a flavour that is similar to yakult.
