Tsuru in Central is dedicated to Japanese-style cocktails, prepared by Japanese mixologist Katsuhisa Hirakawa.

Cocktails at Tsuru are made with a number of alcoholic beverages imported from Japan, including sake, vermouth, spirit, gin, liqueur and whiskey as well as other ingredients, such as Japanese citrus fruits, Sudachi and Hyuganatsu, to bring upon the original Japanese aroma. In addition to the massive cocktail selection, Japanese snacks, skewers and main dishes are served at Tsuru to deliver customers a relaxing Japanese drinking and dining experience.

Celebrating the arrival of the summer season, customers will be delighted by the brand new seasonal Japanese cocktails and sangrias available from now until 30th October. Revolving around 3 distinct themes – “ELEGANT”, “SHARING” and “PLAYFUL”, the 3 different levels of experiences to enjoy the new cocktails and sangrias should not be missed!

Japanese Wine Sangria ($430/500ml, portion for 2-3 persons)
IMG_20170720_181210.jpg

Fish-shaped soy sauce bottle has been one of the quintessential items when enjoying sushi all around the world. As a tribute to the iconic bottle, this Japanese wine sangria is a concoction of Japanese red wine, Zuisen Red Tea Liqueur and Japanese citrus fruits- Sudachi imported from Japan and the Miyazaki Prefecture special Hyuganatsu. This sangria comes with a playful twist as it is served in a super-sized fish-shaped bottle.

Sakura Mojito ($120):
Unlike the usual preparation of mojito, where it is mixed with syrup, the Sakura Mojito at Tsuru uses sugar Shōchū (SHIMAnoNAPOLEON) from Amami Ōshima as a substitute. The mojito is then added with Dover Sakura Liqueur and further upgraded with Japanese citrus fruits - Sudachi imported from Japan and the Miyazaki Prefecture special Hyuganatsu. Garnished with Japanese edible sakura flowers, the sensational drink is modified with a hint of the quaintness and elegance of Japanese culture.

IMG_20170720_181001.jpg
++++++++
WA Negroni ($130):
Vermouth and gin are traditionally the two main ingredients of Negroni. WA Negroni at Tsuru, however, is a mixture of Campari and a vermouth made with a Japanese gin (Wa Bi Gi) and the Asahi Yama Senjuhai Sake from Niigata.
IMG_20170720_181007.jpg
++++++++++
Shiso Mariage ($120):
Made with the Asahi Yama Senjuhai Sake from Niigata, Dover Shiso Liqueur, cranberry juice and fresh lemon juice, the Shiso Mariage cocktail spots a classy shade of red with a refreshing sweetness.

PC celebrates their silver jubilee this year by collaborating with Vitasoy, a local brand that all Hong Kongers know.  Hence there are a collection of Vitasoy-inspired coffee drinks and food as well as a limited edition co-branded glass mug.

The Black Soya Panna Cotta with Quinoa & Chia Seed is served in this cute little mug jar with a lid so I had to get it. It was so silky and delicious with a rich bean taste and it comes with a matching wooden spoon.

For drinks, had the Iced Vitasoy Soyabean Milk Latte which is Vitasoy Soyabean Milk mixed with their signature 18/25 Altura coffee, with black sugar jelly added to the bottom and crispy whole oat sprinkled on top.  The taste is smooth with a crispy twist yet it was quite delightfully bittersweet.

As a fan of Nissin noodles, I had to check out the Nissin ramen popup at LOF10 in Causeway Bay where they have decorated the place like a ramen joint with ramen bowls and Nissin figures.

For me, it is super difficult to decide which one to get but in the end I narrowed it down to the two.
It was either the soup or the one with luncheon meat so I settled for the soup one because of the okra.
The ramen turned out really good because the softness was just right and the broth was good with a poached egg which makes the broth even richer.

Summer is here and I was invited to try DALLOYAU's new summer ice cream selection.

IMG_20170811_171325.jpg

There are three new colourful flavours: Rose, Raspberry and tropical Peach & Mango.
IMG_20170811_171803.jpg

Tried all three and personally I like the raspberry because it is sweet and fresh tasting like Yoplait's raspberry yoghurt.
IMG_20170811_173125.jpg

The rose was really fragrant so it all depends if you like rose while the peach and mango I found quite sweet.
IMG_20170811_170733.jpg

Other sweet treats such as Macarons, strawberry mousse cake and the raspberry opera.

Born and raised in a UK seaside town, I am used to fresh seafood and not so far from home is Brittany another seaside town where they have quality seafood as well.

At EPURE,  Executive Chef Nicolas Boutin brings you the best experience with blue lobsters from Brittany until the end of this month with the THEMATIC dinner.

I was really impressed with this dinner because every course was uniformly sumptuous and the blue lobster was delicately sweet and springy.

Began with the chilled soup and amuse bouche. The petit pois tarts were divine because they just pop in your mouth with sweetness and it is so difficult to get fresh peas in HK.
Peas are a must in French food!
IMG_20170806_043507_683.jpg

The chilled soup was amazing because the tiny mussels at the bottom were sweet and fresh while the mussel foam on top smoothed it out contrasted by the refreshing vegetable jelly.
IMG_20170806_043208_215.jpg

The first of the lobster course was the Blue Lobster with Heirloom Carrot, Baby Artichoke and Elderberry Vinaigrette. The fruity, sweet elderberry vinaigrette made a perfect pairing with lobster.
IMG_20170806_042958_137.jpg

Next was the Blue Lobster with Shellfish Consommé, Petit Pois and Celery. The consomme was rich and strong owing to the lobster tomalley mousse contrasted by the sweet green peas and crisp celery.
IMG_20170806_042751_746.jpg

The third course was a bit like surf and turf wtih Blue Lobster, Blonde d’Aquitaine Beef, Spring Onion, ‘Grenaille’ Potato Tarragon and Red Wine Sauce. As well as the lobster, the potatoes were also fluffy and tasty.
IMG_20170806_042621_164.jpg
IMG_20170806_043653_844.jpg

For desserts, the choice was hard because there was the Seasonal & Essential Artisan Cheese Selection or the Mille-Feuille because both are good! The Caramelised Mille-Feuille is prepared by your table with fresh strawberries, lime zest and Chantilly cream.
IMG_20170806_042228_198.jpg

The cheese platter is wonderful but the Caramelised Mille-Feuille is definitely recommended because it is visually stunning with all those layers and it is such an experience when you eat it.

I didn't know what to expect here but I am always trying out SingMalay foods.
When I arrived, it just instantly looked like Pret x mangxr with soups, noodles, wraps, salads, desserts etc but Asian flavours like Rendang beef, Vietnamese salad etc.

03D6A3CFA189716FA6312Dpx.jpgIf you eat there it feels so Hong Kong as there are so many red taxis going along that road.
03D6A465EA7E5EDAB0C15Bpx.jpgI decided to get THE PENANG noodle because you get the fun of adding hot water to it like a pot noodle since there is a soup paste at the bottom which dissolves into a broth.
03D6A54FB02D4499C7DF91px.jpg03D6A6DAF3DF73284AD2D4px.jpgThe hot Prawn Popiah wrap was filled with prawns, Taiwanese sausage, tofu, jicama, carrot, beansprouts and Hawkr's special Popiah sauce. I really liked it because it was crammed with so much stuff.
03D6A752DE33B4D6A09006px.jpgMy friend had the Javanese Beef Rendang which was very aromatic as there was fresh turmeric and galangal taste to the beef.
03D6A80EF2AFB706B6A129px.jpgFor dessert finished with the pudding which contains sabja seeds at the bottom.
I liked it more than chia seeds because it does not irritate your throat and it was not too sweet. 03D6A9AA47EBD3623FA37Apx.jpg

The cruffin which is a pastry hybrid of a croissant and a muffin was only previously available at posh bakeries in London and some other countries.
It is meant to be crisp and flaky like a croissant and soft doughy like a muffin on the inside. You can get it at Marks and Sparks as well as this Japanese inspired Chinese bakery A1 group but their version is weird as it is covered in icing.

At Marks and Sparks, there are three different flavours – chocolate and hazelnut, Seville orange and strawberry and Marc de champagne, at £1.50 in the UK and $25 in Hong Kong.

IMG_20170708_151154.jpg
IMG_20170708_151148.jpg
IMG_20170708_151200.jpg

I was a bit disappointed because it was not doughy and soft in the middle and it was just a croissant all the way through but shaped like a muffin.
IMG_20170708_150800.jpg
IMG_20170708_150927.jpg

IMG_20170708_150923.jpg

IMG_20170708_151014.jpg

Never the less, both the Strawberry and orange flavours were good because jam and croissants always go together.
The chocolate was a bit rich and tasted like a pain du chocolat filled with nutella paste.

I love cheese so when McDonalds came out with this Quattro Cheeseburger with 4 slices I had to get it.

IMG_20170728_143712.jpg

IMG_20170728_143940.jpg

The burger was a little different from the product picture and would have tasted better if they arranged it like the picture with cheese slices in between the beef instead of 2 cheese slices on the bottom and top of the burger.
IMG_20170728_144759.jpg

Anyway, requested for extra ketchup, onions and mustard because it just tastes so much better with more sauce.

Fell victim to what I thought was a new burger but then discovered I had already had it before in 2014.

IMG_20170726_155442.jpg

IMG_20170726_155648.jpg

I felt that the burger tasted like chicken satay and the crispy coating was exactly the same as the coating that you find in Singaporean style cereal prawns.
IMG_20170726_155853.jpg

IMG_20170726_160022.jpg

The bun was much better and the strong tasting romaine lettuce had more flavour along with the cucumber that it complemented the chicken patty nicely.
Screenshot_2017-07-26-17-07-23.png

It is basically an improved version of the The Samba burger served in June 2014 because they have replaced lettuce with tasty Romaine lettuce.

As well as a restaurant foodie, I am addicted to cup noodles and instant noodles.
Came across these noodles by Taiwanese celebrity star ShuQi which are noodles tossed in sauce.
There are two flavours: Sichuan noodles or Scallion noodles.

IMG_20170716_153116.jpg

IMG_20170716_153146.jpg

Tried both and they were fantastic because you get quality noodles that are served in restaurants and not unhealthy typical instant noodles.

They are too easy to cook, boil until the desired softness and toss the noodles with the sauce provided and they are ready to eat.
IMG_20170716_154509.jpg

Personally I preferred the scallion but the Sichuan one is quite spicy yet fragrant.
It is good how the chili seasoning is in a separate sachet.

Buffets here has always been good but the last time I came was a few years ago.
I can't believe how much I have missed.
Currently it is the "summer beef feast buffet" where you get to try three different beefs as they will serve them in the buffet one after the other.

As well as beef, there was a good seafood, sashimi, sushi, noodle station, cheese selection, hams and more.

The buffet is definitely worth the money because I was amazed at the rate they were serving the Chef's specials.
When you've just finished the first special dish,  the staff are already ringing the bells that there is a new surprise where you queue to get it.
The seafood tower was one of them and at the bottom there was delicious congee!~

I had to leave room for dessert because there were so much choices as well including the famous Movenpick icecreams, durian cheesecake, marble cheesecake and my favourite freshly made pancakes with a brilliant choice of fillings including cherries!!!

According to wiki Old Master Q is a popular Hong Kong comic portrayed in cartoon form in newspapers and magazines as far back as 1962 which was later serialised in 1964.

IMG_20170705_184717.jpg

OMQ Dining room is basically decorated with Old Master Q so it makes a great tourist attraction for people to experience.

Foodwise, they serve the typical cha chaan teng stuff like Swiss wings, baked pork chops etc, fancy desserts and drinks.
IMG_20170705_184843.jpg

I had the fancy sweet potato drink with black diamonds which was actually grass jelly. A surprisingly good drink because it was not too sweet or artificial and I liked the sweet cream on top.

The food was so so especially the lasagne which was too sweet.

Overall a great place for gatherings because it is quite spacious with baby chairs.

In Hong Kong, buffets are just buffets with oysters and lobsters because this is a basic requirement that Hong Kongers want to have.
At The Place, Cordis, they are doing a Hawaiian themed buffet for summer which is really worth trying because there are only one or two places in HK for Hawaiian food.

My sweet tooth totally kicked in because of all those exotic desserts.
The macadamia souffle was divine because the creamy nuts really give it texture and flavour while the shave ice was the best thing to have on a hot day.
Shave ice is not to be confused with Shaved ice because that is how they call it in Hawaii.

As well as food, tea is another big thing for me, be it Chinese leaf tea or English tea.
At 2dp, they serve Brewteaful tea, desserts and vegetarian food which all happen to be my thing.

IMG_20170713_172340.jpg
IMG_20170713_163838.jpg

It is a modern Chinese tea house that uses Chinese teas in their icecreams, cakes, bakeries and of course their artisan teas while modern vegetarian food is served on the menu as well.

It was good to see blackberries as not many places source them in Hong Kong.
IMG_20170714_004530_149.jpg
For drinks had the Lavender blackberry tie guan yin, white rose tea and lychee grapefruit white tea.

Anyway, started with some vegetarian bites which were as good as expected.
The tofu bites were tasty and the cheese, potato and leek bites were crispy filled with fluffy potato filling. It was interesting to see it paired with pickled cabbage which reminds me of this Chinese takeaway in UK.

Homemade tofu balls:

 Potato and cheese potato wontons:
IMG_20170714_005418_877.jpg

For dessert, I managed to scoff more than I expected because they were not sweet at all which is healthy and infused with a fragrant tea taste. The cream horns are a must try because the pastry is soft with a slight chew coated in a sweet glaze filled with fragrant tea custard.

There are two flavours puer tea or tieguanyin.

The teapot cake, again in two flavours was also good because it was tea flavoured mousse with cake layers in the middle, I chose the tiegwanyin apple teapot cake because it was flavoured by refreshing apple puree in the middle.

Finished with the icecream, again there are two flavours. Personally I liked the puer chocolate because the tieguanyin was a bit bitter.
IMG_20170714_004948_993.jpg

Definitely will be back soon for the vegetarian burgers and breakfasts!~ The HAND DRIPPED TEA is also very interesting.

There are lots of options for Chinese soups in Sheungwan like Soupreme 湯品小棧, Souper Authentic 球哥燉湯 and 靚湯王 at Dor dor eatery (with rude service) but NONE for Western soups unless you go all the way to TALLORE in Wanchai.

IMG_20170708_140354.jpg

Finally Souprb has popped up serving soups with 5 choices which they change every week. The soup choices were impressive because there were 4/5 that I wanted to try: pumpkin, beetroot, Mexican chicken, portobello and chestnut, Prawn and crab gumbo (premium choice +$10)
IMG_20170708_144952.jpg

As a soup fan, I got the tasting set which comes with two soups while my friend got the Stew set which comes with rice and a curry. They also had toasties which I really really wanted to eat as well.
IMG_20170708_135808.jpg

We both added $30 for the made to order freshly pressed juices which were refreshing but a bit too sweet.
IMG_20170708_145003.jpg

+++++++++
Tasting set:
Prawn and crab gumbo soup + Mexican chicken
IMG_20170708_141121.jpg

+++++++++
Stew set:
curry, rice and chestnut and portobello mushroom soup
IMG_20170708_141538.jpg

The curry was Japanese curry served with Japanese rice.
IMG_20170708_141147.jpg

+++++++++
As for the soups, the chestnut portobello mushroom was really good, it was thick and there were so much mushrooms and chestnuts in it.
The gumbo was a little disappointing because the cajun and spiciness was not strong enough and there were bits of shell in the soup.
The Mexican chicken tasted like Chinese style borscht soup with chicken added to it.
Will definitely be back for the toasties but the tasting set was not very filling, but then I probably have a big appetite.

At the beginning of this year, I was bored so went to MK and discovered Mr.Greek so decided to go the next day but shockingly when I got there it was closed down.
Anyway, it was odd that they were located in MK because there are not much expats around there.

15825876_1225918450776531_2948976462734220384_n.jpg

Mr Greek is from Canada and they serve Greek food as well as POUTINE.
Again, I discovered this shop by luck because I was trying restaurants nearby.

There were not many people as they have only been open for two weeks.
Started with spanakopita which was flaky filled with spinach and cheese.
It was flaky and stuffed with lots of spinach, a great appetizer if you like light snacks.
IMG_20170627_170714.jpg

Also had the moussaka which was piping hot loaded with minced lamb and layers of potatoes and aubergines.
Tasted similar to British shepherds pie but the lamb was very strong.
IMG_20170627_173943.jpg
The poutine which I was really looking forward to was disappointing because there was not enough gravy and it was lumpy.
Hopefully they will improve on the gravy and serving it in a bowl might be better.

When this restaurant opened a few years ago everyone was raving about it. Finally tried it and the dishes were up to my expectations.
I chose the Central branch because quality is often better and it has more positive reviews than the branch in Tai Koo.
Started with the noodles in sesame soup with chicken.
The sesame flavour was strong and not sickly.

IMG_20170706_181620_654.jpg

I liked the fried oysters because most Taiwanese joints serve greasy oyster pancakes so the individual fried oysters were much nicer complimented by the chili sauce but unfortunately they were a bit too salty.
IMG_20170706_181729_388.jpg

The tea was good with a huge block of herbal jelly but it tasted like HK style milk tea.
IMG_20170706_181825_967.jpg

Finished with the soup which was light and clear.
IMG_20170706_145237.jpg

My friend had the minced meat with gravy which she said was too sweet.

MO Bar is a stylish swank bar located at The Landmark, when you go in, there is a huge bar on the right with a mirrored glass bottle cabinet where you can see all the bottles they have.
The bar was surrounded with lots of people enjoying themselves.

cagbine.jpg

We sat near the back and had the afternoon tea which costs $260 per person.
20170626_161128.jpg

There was a good selection of savories and pastries:
memu.jpg
It was such a treat having the champagne shooter with strawberry and rhubarb because rhubarb is rare in Hong Kong and the champagne was strong with went nicely with the sweet compote.
The lobster medallion was springy and meaty, while the luscious green asparagus and comte cheese was divine.
For the veggie bites, I loved the filo shell topped with zucchini and green pea garnished with goats cheese and lemon.
20170626_163803.jpg
Last but not least were the deliciously crumbly scones paired with clotted cream.

In London, there are Boxparks, where a bunch of shipping containers are made into shops and eateries.
Recently Kai Yip Estate market had a makeover where it was given an Industrial theme with a shipping container outlook so I decided to check it out.
The outside display window had realistic chops and meat hanging.
IMG_20170707_150157.jpg
IMG_20170707_150202.jpg

The location is not exactly convenient because it is a bit of a walk from choi hung MTR station or you can get a bus to Kai Yip Estate Terminal.

As well as checking it out, I was clearly there for food.
There were various stalls from dimsum, fried stuff, noodles etc but 食好啲 clearly was unique because they had these strange looking ricerolls, silver pin noodles which were filled and these items on the menu which I have not seen anywhere else.

I ordered the rolls and a rice, it was difficult deciding between the salted fish rice or dried dace fish but he recommended the salted fish because they salt and sun dry it themselves.
On the counter, there some mouth watering condiments like red and green chili sauce made by them as well.
IMG_20170707_150544.jpg

The rolls were slightly sweet with a strong soybean taste filled with bits of minced meat in the middle but not too much and the chili sauce complimented it nicely.
IMG_20170707_151120.jpg

The not so photogenic salted fish and pork belly rice was amazing because the salted dried fish texture was like fresh fish but slightly firmer like bacalhau, and there were no bones.
It was steamed with pork belly and ginger which releases some oils and goes perfectly with the rice.

Visited Picada before when they were on Elgin road, it was a small bar but they had great drinks and food.
Now they are at LKF and the place is 10 times bigger with a huge bar, buffet area, music area and dining area.
On weekdays, they serve big lunches with a semi buffet included, the salad selection was good.

Carne:
This was juicy skewers of beef sirloin in Bettel sauce on top of soft and silky baby potatoes tossed in a tangy chimichurri and aji limo sauce.

Bandeja paisa:
The portion was quite big and good for sharing.
If you like chili con carne and refried beans, this is the dish for you because there is fried egg, a thick slice of crispy pork belly, complimented by the meat sauce and refried beans.
There was also avocado, arepas and a piece of fried plantain.

This restaurant has been here for years serving the best Arabic Halal food in Hong Kong.

I used to eat at Sham Fast Food which was owned by them before this restaurant popped up in 2004.

Went here for dinner because I haven't been here for years and nothing has changed except for the improved decor which gives it a stronger Middle Eastern appearance like Simurgh in London.
That guy who served me a few years ago was still there.
19511594_10155373167888340_1761316870235944045_n.jpg

Dinner portions are quite big.

Started with lentil soup which was starchy and creamy with a hint of cumin.
19511623_10155373228563340_786505758600780918_n.jpg

Next was the silkiest hummous which I just wolfed down.
It is too good to be shared.
IMG_20170629_181244.jpg

Also had the mutabal and babbaganoush. The babbaganoush tasted sweet and sour while the mutabal was more savoury, both delicious with their fluffy pita bread.
IMG_20170629_181816.jpg

For mains had the Shawerma which was tasty chicken, lamb and beef.
All were nicely spiced.
19510408_10155373220893340_3000403470194006453_n.jpg

The mixed kebab paired with Arabic salad was grilled minced meat drizzled with tahini, again with cumin paired with refreshing salad and tasty Arabic rice.

Finished with the Halawat Al Gibn which tasted like a chewy glutinous rice cheesecake that was not too sweet.
