「壹玖捌叁」, literally the old Chinese characters meaning 1983, is set at Tsoi Tak Street in Happy Valley. The restaurant is very intimate and spacious, serving not only traditional but innovative Hong Kong cuisine with a little modern twist.
First things first, their menu is presented on an iPad for which we can also take our own orders.

An amuse bouche is served and it is winter melon cubes with a Chinese plum and vinegar marinate. Our choice of starter comes next, which is a deep fried bean curd with an incredibly thin crunchy coating and a soft tofu center, seasoned with spicy salt and I recommend having it with worcestershire sauce.

Duck web is always my favourite among all other expensive “high class” Cantonese dishes, especially when it is prepared with the Hong-Kong-style abalone sauce. This is definitely delicious so as the abalone which is braised amazingly soft and tender.

Another loved dish is this stir-fried egg white with shredded crabmeat and toasted pine nuts, the egg white itself is indeed fluffy while the prawns are super large and crunchy, firm, crisp with a great and flavorful texture.

Finally, we have a purple sweet potato “jian dui“, which is basically a fried Chinese pastry using a dough made out of glutinous rice flour and mashed sweet potato, coated with sesame seeds and filled with a piping hot salted egg lava custard.
