While we stepped into the new page of 2016, I believe it was still worthwhile to do a little throw-back to one of the biggest musical event last year by Hennessy because it's coming along this year!

Since its founding in 1765, Hennessy has been driven to create the world's best cognacs. In this continuing quest for excellence, seven generations of the Fillioux family have been Master Blenders at Hennessy, thereby ensuring the transmission of this precious savoir-faire from one generation to another.

Hennessy was celebrating its 250th anniversary celebration last year. Despite plans to celebrate this anniversary, its annual music-fest “Hennessy Artistry” – an innovative musical platform- was set to be a more unique celebration of the relationship between Music and the Hennessy brand as it took a new turn to re-emphasize Hennessy’s love for music hence, the theme for last year’s celebration; “Hennessy loves Music”. The event was star-studded and attended by Peter Okoye, Falz, Toni Tones, Ehiz, DJ Lambo, Saeon, Emmanuel Ikubese and more.

The creation of Hennessy Artistry Halo is based on the philosophy of “The Global Art of Mixing”; essentially the seamless blending of East & West. This is exemplified not only through the varied genres of music and the synthesis of top talents and emerging artistes.

Previous Hennessy Artistry headliners include Jesse Jagz, Nneka, Cobhams, Kas, Jude “MI” Abaga, Banky W, Sir Shina Peters, Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince, El Dee, Bez, Wizkid, 2Face and other notable Nigerian acts.

Hennessy Artistry is an innovative musical platform, launched worldwide by Hennessy in 2006 to celebrate the vibrant multiculturalism of different genres.

deTour 2015

Untitled

deTour 2015, Hong Kong’s annual creative festival and concurrent event of Business of Design Week (BODW), will take place at the iconic Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters (PMQ) from November 27th to December 6th this year.

With “Connection” as the overall theme, deTour will host an abundance of interactive activities including workshops, pop-up exhibitions, design dialogues and art installations to showcase the creative works by young, emerging local talents as well as to raise awareness of social issues and to engage the local community.

This year’s event brings together Hong Kong’s most sought-after artists, including Alen Ng, Keith Lam, Gaybird Leung, The Poverty Line, LAAB and WARE to “connect” their innovative artworks with the public. The installations, suitable for all ages, encourage participants to connect with the creators. From giant interlocking horns to life-size hamster wheels, deTour 2015’s programs are designed to excite all senses.

Beiwei-Kaishu-01-1024x683.jpg

This is one of the best exhibitions in deTour 2015 this year. Having a penchant for well-designed fonts (second this if you know that satisfaction from downloading 100+ typefaces from dafont a night), I could by no means take my eyes off this articulately-curated light & sound installation.

Dated back to the 40s, BeiWei Kaishu (a name of a font if you're bemused) has been utilized extensively on shop signs and a wide range of typographic applications. Yet due to the lack of recognition of its historical and cultural background as well as the destruction of the old city by the so-called urban renewal, such style has been gradually vanished.

While neon light signifies vitality, the combination of BeiWei Kaishu and neon light is a brilliant marriage that brings life to the mundane cityscape. This installation combines Hong Kong Beiwei Kaishu, neon light and noise. Spectators could control the frequency of light blinks and the speed of the noise by distance to the installation.

Cloud is a symbol of dream. “Landscape of Cloud” is an artwork with imagination and wish. The artist turns the intangible cloud into reality, allowing the audiences to interact with the sky through feeding the “colours” to the cloud. At the same time, the changing lights of the cloud will create a different ambience to the room.

Don't leave before appreciating the Urban Symphony! The objective of Urban Symphony is straightforward and sets out to harmonise different sounds people hear every day in a complex and fast-moving city like Hong Kong. Much of the time, people feel overwhelmed with so much commotion around them and it was this challenge, which inspired how the artist projects and complements sounds from traffic, nature and voices. The installation is for anyone to interpret how sound (communication) should be and to hear a different perspective of the city.

Muji has long been distinguished by its design minimalism, emphasis on recycling, avoidance of waste in production and packaging, and no-logo or "no-brand" policy. The name Muji is derived from the first part of Mujirushi Ryōhin, translated as No Brand Quality Goodson Muji's European website.

muji-1-1.jpeg.jpg

Muji started with 40 products during the 1980s, their products range from stationery, and clothing for men and women, to food items and major kitchen appliances and has even included an automobile. Its primary business includes Café Muji, Meal Muji, Muji Campsite, florist and home furnishing; the company has also engaged in architectural project such as the Muji houses.

MUJI_02.jpg

By the end of the 2000s, Muji sells more than 7,000 products. It is positioned as a "reasonably priced" brand, keeping the retail prices of products "lower than usual" by the materials it selects, streamlining its manufacturing processes, and minimising packaging.

When I first smelt the new cologne, I closed my eyes and immediately the first whiff exuded a twist of the Hugo Boss signature scent within its fragrance mix.

I have to admit, the campaign with Theo James and Natalie Poly really made me curious and the flacon looks quite attractive. The scent is characterized by an extraordinary oriental smell because of the use of the Maninka fruit which reminds me of a mixture between passionfruit and rum. Ginger and leather give the fragrance the needed masculine spice. For me its actually the best perfume from Hugo Boss. It’s pleasant to wear during the day, not too strong but definitely intense. It is quite heavy and thats why it’s perfect for autumn and upcoming winter.

The Scent is a matured fragrance that left you wanting more.

Situated in a historical building in the busy Mong Kok area, The Hut comes as a thoughtful surprise for the long-stressed city dwellers (those who work from 9-5 and usually overwork an hour or two everyday with a few emails pushed to your mailbox after work, yes you.) - a quiet city garden for you to truly destress on a relaxing Sunday.

jord watch

Untitled

Came in a beautifully crafted wooden box, JORD surprised me with a raw sense of nature the moment I received the parcel. What came right after the wooden surprise were the dazzling Swarovski crystals inlayed in bezel, in conjunction with the seductive rose gold hue.

Untitled

The fine wooden material has been tactfully polished so it will by no means hurt your skin when you are wearing it. The crystals make the watch a hybrid art of modernisation and natural good vibe.

Untitled

If you have a second, do take a look at their website to learn more about their story and their materials. I was completely blown away by the fact that they have a wide range of 8 wood materials, ranging from ebony to bamboo, and from zebrawood to rosewood. Each of the material has different characteristics so you can browse and choose the one you like the most - colour, lightness, smell, you name it.

Untitled

Unique WatchesJORD was derived from a desire for timepieces that model modern lifestyle. Sustainable, efficient, simple, and influenced by experiential living. JORD owners don't just have somewhere to be, they have somewhere to go.

sushi fix

20657455369_47ee894ce4_c.jpg

If you work around Central area, you have to check out this newly opened Japanese take-away restaurant named Wasabi Warriors. It has become my go-to place for a quick and light lunch. The healthy and delicious sushi rolls provide Central white-collar with a wise alternative, especially when it comes to clean eating.

easy truths

The end of innocence and easy truths. The beginning of sex, drugs and insecurity. And acne. A time we will yearn to go back to for the rest of our lives and at the same time be very happy we came out the other end in one piece (more or less).

Featuring Lily Inge Newmark, Marie Sophon, Ben Mansbridge, Olivia Hudson-Carder and the voice of Clare Kissane.

Filmed on Red Epic over the course of two years in Germany and the UK.

Music: Sarah Neufeld - Forcelessness

mumsnothome

Untitled

2015-07-05 14.01.44

Despite being a select shop, mumsnothome offers drinks for customers so let's just call it a cafe as well (though they do not serve any cakes nor desserts in which they should do). Drinks are traditional African tea. It changes colour from blue to purple when you add lime.

Untitled

Chow Chow (cofounder of the cafe/select shop) was kind enough to share his sketchbook which he kept all his working holiday memories in. Being a graphic designer himself, Chow Chow is never short of creative ideas - look at this page, he pasted his real hair on the page to finish a statement art piece.

Untitled

mumsnothome is the talk of the town on Instagram world. Situated inside an old building in Yau Ma Tei, the area itself makes the search of the place a surreptitious journey. It is that kind of the journey you can only do when your mum is not home. (*pun) I went there a couple of weeks ago and totally enjoyed myself there. If you happen to be around the town, you should not have this place missed. Instagram search "mumsnothome" for more information.
